Basic Online Poker Rules
I am ready to play, what are the game rules? For the purpose of this beginners guide, we decided to describe here the very basic rules of the two most popular poker games. Texas Hold’em and Omaha.
Overview Texas Hold’em Basic Rules.
The poker industry exploded thanks to the filming of great tournaments such as the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour. Texas Hold’em has become the staple poker game for many casinos thanks to its televised fame. As the current flagship of poker games, it is the one that is most played in casinos all around the world. The following is the basic rules to Texas Hold’em Poker.
Texas Hold’em Basic Rules:The game of Texas Hold’em is quite easy to understand but extremely difficult to master. In most casinos, Texas Hold’em played with up to 10 players at a time. A 52 card standard deck is used. Each player is dealt two cards (which are called hole cards). No one else is able to see these cards except for you. Texas Hold’em is played with community cards. Community cards are those that could be used by any player on the table. The object of Texas Hold’em Poker is to make the best five card poker hand using your hole cards and the community cards.
Texas Hold’em Game Play:Usually, players will situate themselves around an oval table where a dealer is placed in center of one side of the table. Each game starts out with a player designated as the button (if it’s a new table, the standard poker culture is to have players choose a card at random and the person with the highest card is the button). As the game continues, the button will move in a clock wise direction giving every player a chance to be the dealer. The two players to the left of the button are the small and big blinds. These players must post a blind based on the game they are playing. Blinds are what forces action in the game.
Now the Texas Hold’em game play is as follows. First every player is dealt their two hole cards after which players, then starting with the person to the left of the big blind (because he has already posted) each player will then get to call the big blind, fold or raise. After all the bets are in, the dealer deals out the first 3 community cards which are called the flop. Now, starting from the left of the button, players will get to choose to make the minimum bet, fold or raise. After betting takers place, the 4th card is dealt which is also called the turn. It is followed by another round of betting after which a fifth card will be dealt which is called the river. If by then there are players still in the game (meaning a winner was not determined because all player but one folded) there will be a showdown. Based on the each players hole cards and the community cards, the beast 5 card poker hand determines the winner.
Limit, Pot Limit, and No Limit: These terms refer to the betting rules of the game. Texas Hold’em can be played with Limit, Pot Limit and No limit betting rules. Check the table of which you will be playing to know what you are getting into.
Note: Every casino has what is called “house rules.” Be sure to know what they are before sitting down at the table. There might be some quirks to the betting and posting of blinds.

A player is "calling" when he puts in money to match a previous bet or raise that was made.
