Monday Mar 17, 2008'Unfair Play' in Online Poker Room

UltimateBet is one of the largest 10 online poker rooms available. This week its name has been coupled together with allegations of 'unfair play.' It is, in fact, the second time in six months that a popular online poker room has been accused of unfair play.

Concerned players put forward the allegations that a particular player had an unfair advantage while he was playing and seemed to be winning an abnormally high amount of times. The allegations were put forward to UltimateBet and to its licensing authority – the Kahnawake Gaming Commission (KGC). UltimateBet claims to have taken the matter into hand immediately and launched a full inquiry involved an independent third party. They claim that hundreds of thousands of hand histories have been reviewed in order to attempt to discern the details of this case.

There are also claims that NioNio accounts may have been deleted and that these are part of a larger related scheme. Following a partial investigation, it was confirmed that the NioNio accounts were abnormal. The last scandal to hit the online poker industry involved allegations of "superuser" accounts within Absolute Poker, another large and popular online poker room. The KGC investigated in that case too and following their full investigation, they fined Absolute Poker $500,000.

UltimateBet and Absolute Poker are owned by the same company, Tokwiro Enterprises ENRG. In this case, they ensure their patrons that they pride themselves on providing a safe and secure environment for gambling and therefore, a thorough investigation will be conducted.
