Thursday Mar 13, 2008Launch of First Latin American Poker Tour
In an exciting move for Latin American poker fans and players, PokerStars has announced the launch of the first Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT). PokerStars, the largest online poker site, has announced that the LAPT will begin on May 3, 2008. It will begin in stunning Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where players will meet for a total of three days, competing for an impressive $600,000 of prize money. Following Rio de Janeiro, the LAPT will move on to San Jose in Costa Rica. It will end in Uruguay on August 9, 2008 with the LAPT Punta del Este.
Latin America Poker Tour president Glenn Cademartori says that the poker industry is growing rapidly in Latin America and that the country is definitely ready for its own major tour. The LAPT is designed to "put Latin America on the map as the newest hotspot to play high-stakes international poker."
The LAPT organizers are expecting 250 players to each event from all over the globe, but primarily from Latin America itself, North America and Europe. There are thousands of poker players in Brazil and Argentina and this opportunity will be a highlight of their poker playing careers so far. Players will need to qualify for the tournament through online poker satellite tournaments. PokerStars is ideal for this mission as it is the number one online poker site in the world and thus attracts some of the top players in the online poker industry. The LAPT launch promises to be an exciting addition to poker tournaments.
