Thursday Jan 24, 2008Over 2,000 employees to be hired by Foxwoods

The Foxwoods Casino is back in the news, this time because of its huge demand for Human Resources. The Casino is going on a hiring binge and is reported to be hiring over 2,000 employees.

Earlier this week, the casino started its recruitment drive to source a minimum of 2,000 employees for the new MGM Grand at Foxwoods. Some of the tenants in the new property will include Tom Colicchio's Craftsteak and Junior's Cheesecake. They will also have to hire additional employees which should total an additional 1,000.

This, new resort casino is all set to open next door in May and hence the hiring beings well in advance, as recruiting and training a huge staff requires time. Some of these employees will come from the existing Foxwoods casino. However, most of them will have to be new hires.

Since the current unemployment rate in the Norwich-New London area stands at 4.3 percent, Casino executives said the majority of workers will likely leave current jobs to start at the new MGM property.

Most of these jobs are at entry level and the casino plans to advertise in-state as well as Providence and Atlantic City. The Casino is looking to draw in a large number of candidates for the interviews and recruit only the best. It will also try and recruit Native American workers to the new casino, which is owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe.

Gillian Murphy, senior vice president and general manager for the new resort casino said “Our employees will be the heart and soul of the customer service experience at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods".
