The United States Interior Department has denied a proposal by an Indian tribe who was trying to build a casino on reservation land. However, the tribe continues to remain upbeat and claims that this is not the end of the line for their efforts and they will try again!

Dona Ana County Commission Chairman, Mr. Kent Evans said "From what I'm hearing, it's not really a dead issue. There's still some chance this could be turned around".

The Indian Tribe were told last week that their proposal was rejected by the Interior Department on the basis that the tribe was located too far away from the proposed site of the casino. The estimated distance between the tribe and the proposed site where the Casino is supposed to be built is 293 miles.

The proposed site of the casino was Anthony. The tribe were put in a proposal for seventy nine acres to be put in their trust so that they could begin construction of their Casino.

David Wilson, a spokesman for Santa Fe art dealer Gerald Peters said "The people that advise the pueblo are still analyzing it. I think they feel it's not over and there's still an avenue there, but they have to research it". Peters is a partner with Jemez Pueblo.

The tribe will have to think up a new strategy to counter the claim which says that their reservation is to far from the proposed site of construction. The tribe plans to come up with a new strategy and proposal and petition the Interior Department once again in the near future!
